Encrypting files is easy, but is it convenient enough for everyday use? If you have a collection of digital photos, storing them in an encrypted archive surely cuts down on unauthorized access. But, this way of storing the pictures restricts legitimate access, making it much slower and overall much less convenient. Besides, there is a security concern connected with encrypted files or archives: in order to view the pictures, you generally have to decrypt them and save them somewhere on a hard drive, opening a security loophole that allows an unauthorized person to grab the file and get the very image you wanted to protect.
